Internet Cuts
Since Monday, reports have emerged of Wi-Fi networks — including Afghan Telecom — being cut in several Afghan provinces. The Afghan Digest can confirm disruptions in Mazar-e Sharif and parts of Kandahar. Unconfirmed reports suggest similar outages in Uruzgan, Helmand, Nimruz, Kunduz, Takhar, Baghlan, Badakhshan, and Herat. Mobile internet services remain unaffected at this time. The cuts have disrupted banking, passport, and other government services, though it is unclear if international money transfers have been affected. Bank officials and ministers are reportedly opposing the outages and urging that access be restored. This is a developing story, and the Afghan Digest will continue to monitor the situation.
