LAST 24 HOURS:

  • Following his recent visit, Taliban Defense Minister Yaqoob submitted a report to Taliban leadership about the conditions in Panjshir and Baghlan provinces. One source reported that the Defense Minister wrote that unless changes were made the Taliban could be expelled from the provinces. Sources stated the report was not well received by leadership.

  • An explosion was reported in Police District 2. Eyewitnesses state it was near the Kandahari market. No further information was available.

  • The Russian FSB (intelligence service) stated that drug trafficking seizures in Central Asian states had doubled under the Taliban regime.

  • Fighting in Panjshir resumed after two days of relative calm. Sources state the NRF launched their most recent attack near the Astana area. The action was thought to be a “spoiling attack” meant to hit Taliban units who were reputedly preparing to attack the NRF.

NEXT 24 HOURS:

  • The NRF is said to be planning two attacks on Taliban forces in both the Kohsar and Paryan districts of Panjshir province.

  • The Central Bank plans to auction $12.5 million USD.

  • Additional security forces are expected to arrive in Kandahar after a report of an unspecified threat was received by the Ministry of the Interior. No further information was available.

Inside the Afghan Resistance

By Salar Abdoh, Abolfazl Shakiba, Mostafa Saeidi – Guernica

Depending on one’s pace, the season, and the ongoing state of war, it is a day’s hike from Andarab to the border of legendary Panjshir, the adjacent province in the highlands of Afghanistan. The two mountain districts, part of a five-hundred-mile-long stretch of the Hindu Kush extending from the Himalayas, are citadels that have rained doom on every bully ever to pass through Central Asia in endless dogged pursuit of cruelty and loot.
