LAST 24 HOURS
Three separate bomb attacks were reported across the country. The first attack targeted a Taliban vehicle in Badakhshan. The second was a roadside bomb in the 3rd police district of Kunduz. The final blast targeted another Taliban military vehicle in the capital of Kunar. Early reports suggest 11 people were killed in the blasts with scores more injured, but a definitive casualty count has yet to be supplied. A possible fourth roadside bomb was reported in Kandahar, and early reports suggest a Taliban commander may have been killed. We are unable to confirm the fourth bombing report and do not yet have information on who may have planned the attacks.
Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a contracted bus in Mazar-i-Sharif that was carrying airport employees to work. Early reports claim that 2 non-combatants were killed and 6 non-combatants were injured. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Conflicting reports continue to arrive after fighting was reported at a mosque in Takhar’s capital of Taloqan. The Taliban claim a counter-terrorism operation resulted in the deaths of 8 ISIS-K militants. However, journalists and eyewitnesses claim the conflict was actually clashes between factions of the Taliban that resulted in the deaths of both Taliban fighters and non-combatants. Commander Yunus Uzbekistani is rumored to be among the dead. No official announcements have been made on Taliban casualties, despite eyewitness reports that dead and wounded Taliban have been seen getting removed from two trucks. We are waiting for more information on the situation.
Sources within the Taliban claim there is a factional divide developing between those loyal to the previous governor of Panjshir and the newly installed Pashtun governor, Mohammad Nasim Noori. One report claims the new governor returned to Kabul following several days of leading offensive attacks against Resistance forces, but this report has not yet been corroborated.
Sources in the palace say that an unwritten order has been issued to disarm and arrest Mullah Mehdi Mujahid and his Hazara followers after his armed takeover of Balkhab. The exact number of loyal fighters he has remains unclear but seems to be lower than initially estimated. However, reports continue to come in that Mullah Mehdi is gathering Hazara men and arms from the nearby area.

SPOTLIGHT ANALYSIS:
The West Is Getting Afghanistan Wrong, Again
By Cathal Ó Gabhann - The National Interest
When the Taliban marched into Kabul on August 15, 2021, marking the end of forty years of conflict, I breathed a sigh of relief. “Finally,” I thought, “the bloodshed has ended.” With the entire country now decisively in the hands of one central power for the first time since that brief period in the early 2000s, the international community would be in a position to support the new authorities in providing stable governance for the people of Afghanistan.
