IRAN ANNOUNCES OFFICIAL AFGHAN DEPORTATION PROGRAM – A report published on Saturday in Iranian news outlets cites the Director General of Foreign Nationals and Immigrant Affairs in the Kermanshah Province as saying that an 8 phase program to detain and deport Afghan nationals has been implemented in his Province and in 14 other Provinces across the country. The report states that several thousand Afghan employees of Iranian countries had already been detained and are awaiting deportation. It is not currently clear if the program was formulated by Tehran but the Provinces that are in the midst of carrying out the detention/deportation order are: East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Zanjan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Ilam, Lorestan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Gilan, Mazandaran, Sistan and Baluchestan, Hormozgan, and Hamedan.
WOMEN’S HEALTH CENTERS BEING SHUT DOWN – The Taliban appear to be indiscriminately closing health centers that cater to female patients. Reports from Herat say the Ferdowsi Institute of Health Sciences (Herat City) was closed by Taliban officials on Saturday. The Taliban gave the purported mixing of boys and girls in the classes and a failure to observe hijab as the reason for closing the center. Another center was reportedly closed last week over similar accusations by the Taliban when the Ghazanfar Institute of Health Sciences had its doors shut by the Taliban. The closures are bizarre as there has been a shortage of female health practitioners reported by the Taliban themselves. Many believe the closures have nothing to do with boys and girls mixing or the hijab but represent a wider goal of erasing women from the fabric of society.
AL QAEDA CALLS ON ‘ALL MUSLIMS IN THE WORLD’ TO KILL PRINCE HARRY – A German intelligence report indicates that a recent post from Al Qaeda’s media arm (As-Sahab) called for global attacks against the US and Prince Harry in particular. The terrorist group sees such attacks as ‘symbolic acts of revenge and punishment for all supporters of Israel’. It was not clear if the German intelligence report had been leaked or declassified.
