Uyghur East Turkestan Movement (ETIM): A Festering Wound for China
The primary concern of regional stakeholders since the Taliban takeover has been to prevent the spread of extremism and the accompanying blight of terrorism. Buried underneath all the disingenuous proclamations of support for the regime lies a deep suspicion the Taliban are offering safe havens for select terrorist groups. While Pakistan remains the biggest and most immediate target, China knows it lies squarely in the crosshairs of the Uyghur East Turkestan Movement (ETIM).
LAST 24 HOURS:
The NRF claim to have ambushed two Taliban security vehicles in the Khost district of Baghlan province. The vehicles were thought to be stragglers of a reinforcing column dispatched by Kabul to assist with the offensive in Andarabha. This information is awaiting verification.
Sources indicate a yet unnamed Taliban commander was killed in the 8th District of Faiz Abad (Badakhshan). Photos of the leader and his two deceased bodyguards have circulated on social media.
Sources stated the Taliban launched an attack against suspected NRF positions in Dara-e-Qasan early yesterday morning. Reportedly, the Taliban are having significant difficulty with communications during military engagements and are concerned their equipment is being jammed. Kabul is reputedly losing patience with local commanders.
Several reports have come in claiming Pakistan is warning its citizens in Afghanistan to leave the country. The first report arrived on 7 April 2022. We have not confirmed the veracity of these reports at this time.
NEXT 24 HOURS:
More fighting in Badakhshan is expected and a senior visit is being planned by the Minister of Defense. Sources said that several Taliban leaders are expected to be demoted during the visit.
As a result of information gained from the arrest of people implicated in providing weapons to the NRF, Taliban security forces are planning to search several houses in Kabul and Jalalabad over the next three days.
